AN EMPOWERED CHURCH

READ MARK 16:14–18

In today’s passage, Jesus met with His disciples after His death and resurrection. Sadly, He had to rebuke them for their unbelief before He could share with them His last instructions for the Church. Jesus had an important task for them, and He needed them to be fully on board. In His last recorded words to His followers, Jesus outlined the job description of the Church: to preach the gospel, heal the sick, and set the captives free.

“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15).

Jesus promised them that they would have the power to do what He was asking them to do. Christians are empowered to not only spread the gospel, but also to exercise authority over demons, sickness, and anything else that is not aligned with God’s kingdom purposes. The question is, do you believe? Do you believe that Jesus came to save and heal? Do you believe that He has given you, through the power of the Holy Spirit, the authority to do these works in His name?

Prayer Suggestion: Help me, Holy Spirit, to understand the authority I have in Jesus and to use it to advance God’s kingdom.
