READ 1 PETER 1:3–12
The private could hardly contain his excitement as he told his sergeant that he just heard his first child had been born that morning. Although he was thousands of miles away from his new son and had not yet seen any pictures of him, his heart was already full of love for him.
He knew it would be a while before he could see him in person, but the delay would not lessen his joy or his love for his child. Indeed, the anticipation of seeing and holding his baby would make the wait bearable.
Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls (1 Peter 1:8–9).
As a Christian, you also know the longing to see Someone you love. You have read His love letter to you—the Bible—and you feel His presence in your life. But your salvation assures you that you will soon see His face and be with Him forever.
Thought for Today: Heaven is real, and Jesus is waiting to greet us.
