COALS OF FIRES

READ ISAIAH 6:1–11

Stacy looked back at her life and shook her head. I’ll never be good enough to please God, she thought. Then she remembered a message her pastor brought a few weeks earlier. He reminded the congregation that the blood of Jesus purifies from sin and makes believers clean before God. In the Old Testament, Isaiah experienced a unique purification.

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for” (Isaiah 6:6–7).

Isaiah thought he would surely die in the presence of God in His Temple. He saw his own impurities and did not see any hope for himself. However, an angel brought a live coal from the altar, touched it to Isaiah’s lips, and pronounced him purified from sin.

This passage reminds us of the cleansing work at salvation. When a person receives Christ as Savior, the new believer is cleansed from sin and brought into right standing before God. His cleansing fire purifies from all sin.

Prayer Suggestion: Take a few moments to thank God for His cleansing work in your life.
