CONTENTEDLY TRUSTING

READ LUKE 3:10–14,21,22

Recently I tried to set up my perfect home office. I found there were barriers. For example, the room was too small to install a large office desk or the cozy recliner I wanted. That left me with a worktable and an old rocking chair. However, I soon realized that since these items were all I really needed to get my work done, I could be satisfied with what I had. In short, I needed to be content.

It was the same for some of John the Baptist’s new converts.

Then some soldiers asked him, “What should we do?” He replied, “Don’t extort money and don’t accuse people falsely—be content with your pay” (Luke 3:14).

So how did my home office turn out? I still work at the old worktable and use my rocking chair, but I get my work done. Perhaps your life circumstances are not what you would have chosen. But God is with you, and in Him, you can learn contentment.

Thought for Today: Spiritual contentment frees me of distraction so I can serve God.
