FOLLOW THE HEAD

READ COLOSSIANS 1:14–20

He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy (Colossians 1:18).

Not only did Jesus promise to build His Church (Matthew 16:18), and not only did He purchase the Church with His own blood (Acts 20:28); He serves as the Head of the Church today. What are some of the ways in which we must follow Jesus, our Head?

We must follow Him in what we believe. When Jesus asked His disciples if they would turn away from Him as many others did, Peter replied, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life” (John 6:68).

We must follow Him in what we do. Jesus has given us one great task—to tell the world they can be saved through His death and resurrection.

We must follow Him in how we respond to the pressures of the world around us. The light of Jesus’ love shines the brightest when we act like Him even when mistreated and abused by those who oppose the gospel.

Prayer Suggestion: Jesus, help my local church to remember that You are the Head.
