Early in United States history, it was decided that the president should have a place to live that would befit such an honored person. In 1792, the building of the White House began so the president could have a magnificent residence.

It was important that the house be located among the people and not in an isolated, remote area. His presence needed to be seen by both leaders and common citizens.

When Almighty God gave Moses the detailed instructions for building the tabernacle, He said that His Presence would reside there. His Presence is far greater than that of any earthly leader.

“Then have them make a sanctuary for me, and I will dwell among them” (Exodus 25:8).
