READ ACTS 14:19–23
Jordan, thirty-seven, looked back to the night when he was appointed to be an elder in his church. He didn’t feel one bit ready for the task, but his pastor’s encouragement gave him the confidence he needed. Further, the church attempted to honor God every step of the way, from carefully choosing Jordan and others, to an orientation meeting, to a ceremony in which the church asked God’s blessing on the new elders. Now, Jordan was standing before the congregation as they appointed several new elders. He placed his hands on one and prayed.
Paul and Barnabas appointed elders for them in each church and, with prayer and fasting, committed them to the Lord, in whom they had put their trust (Acts 14:23).
The process of finding leaders in each local church depends on the guidance and power only God can give. Sometimes you may be surprised with a candidate for leadership that you personally would not have chosen, but you can trust that God has brought that leader forward for His own purposes. Ask God to add His blessing to the lives of those appointed for leadership in your church.
Prayer Suggestion: Father, please help my church to make correct leadership choices.
