HAPPY FAMILIES

READ EPHESIANS 5:22–30

“Dad, I have a question.” Brody was enjoying the drive as he and his father headed toward the store. After a short silence, Mr. Thorton prompted his eight-year-old, “Okay, what is your question?” Brody straightened his posture and asked, “Are you the boss in the house or is mom?”

For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior (Ephesians 5:23).

It is natural for young children to question lines of authority, but adults in the Early Church also had questions. Paul provided the best answer by putting the focus on Jesus and His sacrificial love for the Church. How did Mr. Thorton answer young Brody? “Son, the important thing is that your mom and I both love you, and we are working together to have the kind of family that makes God smile.” Brody was satisfied with his father’s response. If husbands and wives, who make up much of the population of the Church, would love and honor each other, then the Church would feel much more like a happy family.

Prayer Suggestion: Father, help us all to love each other and be the family You desire.
