HOLY EXPECTATIONS

READ EPHESIANS 1:1–10

Every family has expectations. Sometimes they are unrealistic, and the children can’t fulfill them. Some parents demand perfection. Others expect a child to follow a specific profession or accomplish things the parents failed to do. But God’s expectations of us are reasonable. Not only that, He gives the strength to fulfill them.

For He chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will (Ephesians 1:4–5).

Like the expectations of some parents, holiness may seem to be an impossible goal. Yet in Christ, holiness is obtainable because of the sacrifice Jesus made to cover sinfulness. God’s grace is lavished on His dearly loved children. Because of Jesus’ work, believers are not in bondage to sin. They can overcome temptation through the power of the Holy Spirit in them. Trust that God’s redemptive work and the Spirit’s empowerment are available to help you fulfill all His expectations.

Prayer Suggestion: Father, thank You for choosing me and making me able to live a holy and godly life.
