HOUSEKEEPING

READ 1 CORINTHIANS 3:10–17

Local health departments are responsible for evaluating restaurants to ensure they are clean, safe, and up to code for serving food to customers. They can mandate a shutdown for certain violations. Why? The food may not be safe to eat and people could get seriously sick from contamination. Taking care of the restaurant is a critically important job.

Ensuring clean facilities is a theme we also find in Scripture. Paul teaches the church in Corinth that taking care of themselves as God’s temple is critically important. They are the dwelling place for God. Their behavior, lifestyle, and morality really matters.

Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s

temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?

(1 Corinthians 3:16).

The Holy Spirit dwells in His people, and they should represent His holiness. Paul teaches that purity and righteousness are the standard for being a living temple that God desires to dwell in.

Thought for Today: You enjoy a clean home, so make sure you are a pure dwelling place for God.
