READ EXODUS 19:1–14
When Melanie and her sister, Stephanie, were young, they lived in a house beside a busy road. Their father warned them not to go into the road: “If you put one toe on the road, you will be punished!”
One day as the girls played outside, Stephanie dared Melanie to put a toe on the road. After checking the house to be sure their father wasn’t watching, Melanie cautiously put one toe on the forbidden pavement.
The front door slammed and out stomped her angry father. Melanie was punished because she didn’t resist her sister’s dare to touch the road. Just as Melanie had been warned, God had a warning for Moses to give the Israelite people.
“Put limits for the people around the mountain and tell them, ‘Be careful that you do not approach the mountain or touch the foot of it’” (Exodus 19:12).
To their credit, the Israelites obeyed God’s command. Although God probably won’t tell you to stay away from a mountain, His Word still sets limits for His people. Do you want to have your own way or yield to what God knows is best for your life?
Thought for Today: God gives power to resist temptations.
