READ EXODUS 29:31–37
Ricky was outdoors playing catch with his friends when his mom called him inside for dinner. Running into the kitchen, he plopped down in his chair without washing his hands. His mom reminded him that he needed to wash his hands before touching his food.
The instructions God gave Moses for the priests were far more important than washing one’s hands before dinner. The priests were to be consecrated, or made holy, before they could present offerings to the Lord for the sins of the people. They weren’t to hurry through this process of sanctification. They were to do exactly what God had told them, taking a full week to be ready for the task ahead.
“Do for Aaron and his sons everything I have commanded you, taking seven days to ordain them” (Exodus 29:35).
After all of this, the priests and the offerings they presented were insufficient. God sent His Son Jesus as the great High Priest, and His offering of Himself was perfect. Through His sacrifice, people can now be consecrated before God and offer the sacrifice of praise to Him.
Prayer Suggestion: Express to God your thankfulness for Jesus’ sacrifice.
