OVERCOMING SIN

READ EPHESIANS 4:17–24

Before Maria accepted Christ, she made poor choices regarding the men she dated and how she interacted with them. After she came to Jesus, she changed her lifestyle and was determined to live like a new person in Christ.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds (Ephesians 4:22–23).

One day Maria overheard her friends at church talking about their suspicion that the pastor was having an affair. Shocked and disappointed, she wondered if gossip was acceptable in Christian circles. Even her unsaved friends knew it was wrong. Didn’t her Christian friends realize that such talk could cause needless pain and even damage another’s reputation, she wondered, remembering such hurts in her past life.

Maria discovered that many Christians struggle with old sins. Sometimes baggage is kept rather than left at the Cross. It’s always the right time to leave your sin at the feet of Jesus and move forward.

Prayer Suggestion: God, please help me to think and speak only things that please You.
