READ ACTS 9:13–19

“No, Lord. He wouldn’t be interested,” Chris said when the Holy Spirit directed him to talk to his nephew, Ashton, about Christ. As a teen, Ashton had scorned church, and in college declared himself an atheist. Now, in his thirties, he managed a bar.

But the compulsion persisted. Chris was surprised when Ashton not only accepted his invitation to lunch, but also listened to him talk about Jesus and expressed openness to the gospel. Chris had judged Ashton to be too entrenched in sin. But that day Chris learned to not assume anyone is beyond God’s drawing.

But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel” (Acts 9:15).

Ananias understandably balked at going to see the man with full approval to persecute Christians, but God’s calling overcame Ananias’s feelings. The Lord sees the hearts of people. You can’t. So when the Holy Spirit directs you to share the good news, there’s a reason. Perhaps the person will even be God’s instrument to proclaim His name.

Prayer Suggestion: Lord help me to not be intimidated when You call me to talk to others about You.
