READ JOHN 10:31–42

Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” (John 10:31–32).

You’d think the religious leaders would have welcomed Jesus. Instead, He made them so mad that they were ready to execute Him by stoning. He shattered all their illusions and preconceived notions about the Messiah.

People today still have preconceived notions about God. Jesus may or may not be in that picture. Once people are exposed to the truth, the concept is sometimes so different from what they believe that they become defensive, disturbed, or even violent.

Jesus’ actions are a great example of the fearlessness that Christians can demonstrate when proclaiming God’s truth. Throughout the world there are varying degrees of persecution, and Christians are standing up for what is right in each case. With the power of the Holy Spirit, every believer can share the truth with confidence!

Prayer Suggestion: Lord, help me to boldly speak Your Word in spite of opposition.
