READ ACTS 8:9–13
The crowd in today’s Scripture may have seemed fickle. One moment they followed Simon, believing his tricks. The next moment Philip came along.
But when they believed Philip as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women (Acts 8:12).
Really, today’s world is not so different. Most people may not believe illusionists have supernatural skills, but, as in New Testament days, people are eager to believe in something. They may hide it with cynicism or promoting self-worship, but when they truly see God’s power, the façades drop. Every person has something deep inside that says life isn’t quite right or full without Jesus, no matter what distractions the world offers.
Have you been distracted, believing the illusions the world has given you of happiness and fulfillment? If so, will you turn to the real emotional and spiritual satiation of the Holy Spirit? And if you’re walking in the Spirit, will you ask Him to help you show His power to others?
Thought for Today: The unsaved are looking for something to believe in; they just don’t know it is Jesus.
