THE ANOINTING OIL

READ EXODUS 30:22–31

God chose Aaron and his sons to serve as priests in the tabernacle. This role required diligent obedience to every detail of God’s laws. The priests offered sacrifices that led individuals and the entire nation into forgiveness for their acts of disobedience. Such intense responsibilities meant these priests needed God’s anointing for service. This passage gives detailed instructions for anointing all the furnishings in the tabernacle and for anointing the priests who served in the Holy Place.

“Anoint Aaron and his sons and consecrate them so they may serve me as priests. Say to the Israelites, ‘This is to be my sacred anointing oil for the generations to come’” (Exodus 30:30–31).

First John 2:20 speaks of the anointing believers receive from the Holy Spirit. That anointing guides Christians into God’s truth and away from evil deceptions.

Just as the Old Testament priests were anointed for service, the Holy Spirit’s anointing helps believers as they fulfill God’s plan and serve Him in their world.

Challenge for Today: Seek to let the Holy Spirit anoint your life.
