READ LUKE 12:8–12

Jesus prepared His disciples for the opposition they would face. Many would hate them simply because the disciples followed the One they rejected. Because of this, these opponents wanted no part of Jesus’ message. Jesus assured His disciples that, when they faced an accounting of their faith, the Holy Spirit would give them the words to speak to their accusers.

“When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say” (Luke 12:11–12).

Steven listened to his neighbor talk about the loneliness the man experienced after his wife died. His neighbor felt as if life had lost its meaning. As Steven quietly prayed for the right words to share with this man, he remembered the promise Jesus had made to His disciples.

The Holy Spirit still speaks to Christians giving them the precise words to speak in times of need or when they face opposition. You can rely on the Holy Spirit to provide the right words in any situation.

Challenge for Today: Lean on the Holy Spirit more for the right words to say in difficult situations.
