UNDENIABLE PROOF

READ ACTS 19:1–7

When a person applies for an automobile loan, the person has to prove that he or she is capable of repaying the loan. When people go to vote, they have to prove they live in that voting precinct. When a driver gets pulled over, he has to prove that he has insurance. People want proof before they will believe.

God understood that people would want proof that they had received the Baptism in the Holy Spirt. He provided undeniable proof through the initial physical evidence of speaking in a language they had not previously learned.

When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied (Acts 19:6).

Speaking in tongues is not something to fear. When you yield yourself to accept God’s gift of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, He will empower you to speak in tongues. When you allow God to speak through you in this way, you will join with a multitude of people who have had this experience, starting with those on the Day of Pentecost.

Thought for Today: You can be sure you were baptized in the Holy Spirit if you speak in tongues.
