READ LUKE 24:49–53
Jesus spent more than three years preparing His disciples for the mission God gave them. His last instruction to them involved staying in Jerusalem until they received the Holy Spirit’s power to serve.
“I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high” (Luke 24:49).
The disciples needed the Holy Spirit’s power to complete the mission God gave them—taking the gospel to the world. This mission cost some their lives as martyrs. As powerful messengers of the gospel, they saw many people come to the saving knowledge of Christ.
Christians still need this infusion of power to best impact the world with the message of Christ. Other religions depend on rules, traditions, or strong leaders to spread their message. Christianity leans on the powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit to change lives. Every Christian needs to seek a personal experience of being baptized in the Holy Spirit. His power transforms us into powerful Christian witnesses.
Thought for Today: The Holy Spirit wants Christians to be clothed with His power so that they can complete the mission God has chosen.
