Have you ever had someone make a promise to you but never follow through with it? The promise may have been made out of the emotion of the moment or out of a true desire to be a blessing. When it remains unfulfilled, that promise becomes a disappointment and changes the relationship between the two parties. Believers need to be careful of the promises they make.
“When a man makes a vow to the Lord or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said” (Numbers 30:2).
God keeps His Word and so must His followers. Believers who show faithfulness through the follow-through of their words reflect the faithfulness of Jesus.
Gauge carefully the words of promise you make to others. Ask the Lord if this is a promise you should make. Is His grace there to fulfill the promise made? When you receive your “yes,” make the promise, fulfill your words, and rejoice that God used you to meet the need of another.
